Alice Munro Wins The 2013 Nobel Prize For Literature

Canadian author Alice Munro has won the 2013
Nobel Prize for Literature.
Making the announcement, Peter Englund,
permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy,
called her a "master of the contemporary short
story".
The 82-year-old, whose books include Dear Life
and Dance of the Happy Shades, is only the 13th
woman to win the prize since its inception in
1901.
"I knew I was in the running, yes, but I never
thought I would win," Munro told Canadian
media.
Presented by the Nobel Foundation, the award -
which is presented to a living writer - is worth
eight million kronor (£770,000).
Munro said in an interview that Dear Life would
"probably" be her last book
Previous winners include literary giants such as
Rudyard Kipling, Toni Morrison and Ernest
Hemingway.
Mr Englund told The Associated Press that he had
not been able to contact Munro ahead of the
announcement so left a message on her
answering machine, informing her of her win.
"She has taken an art form, the short story, which
has tended to come a little bit in the shadow
behind the novel, and she has cultivated it almost
to perfection,'' he added.
Munro, who began writing in her teenage years,
published her first story, The Dimensions of a
Shadow, in 1950.
She had been studying English at the University of
Western Ontario at the time.

$5m for Baby KimYe’s First Pictures

Arriving last Saturday - five weeks earlier than scheduled, Baby KimYe spoiled her parents' plan of sharing the spotlight with the Queen of England's first great-grandchild, expected to be born to the Duke of Cambridge, and his gracefully pregnant consort, Kate Middleton, in July.

Against all expectations, the 32-year-old porn-star-turned-reality-TV-queen Kimberly opted for a natural birth rather than easier delivery alternatives. For the very first time, Kim - a woman of very easy virtues and Kris Jenner's biggest cash cow - is applauded for choosing a difficult option.

Another big surprise is that she didn't take over an entire floor of the Cedars-Sinai Hospital, in Beyonce Carter fashion, for her delivery.

Impromptu delivery or not, trust Grandma Kris, Baby Daddy Kanye and the whole Kardashian/Jenner clan to protect baby KimYe's pictures from leaking to the public for free. All we hear for now is that she has dark hair and looks more like her mum than dad.

According to experts, the first pictures of KimYe could command an upward of $5 million. Brad Elterman, of the Buzz Foto Agency, confirmed this while adding that: "There are very few groundbreaking stories in today's pop culture that can command big bucks, but I guess this is one that will get some tails wagging."

Kim had sold exclusive picture rights of her second wedding ceremony to People's Magazine for the sum of $1.8 million and bridal shower pictures to OK! Mag for $100,000 as part of the total $18M she reportedly made off the pre and actual wedding coverage by the media. The August 2011 marriage to Basketballer Kris Humphries lasted 72 days.

Man Stabs Cheating Wife To Death In Ajah, Lagos “The Devil Forced Me To Kill Her”

Man Stabbed Cheating Wife To Death In Ajah, Lagos “The Devil Forced Me To Kill Her

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Daniel Kanjo, for allegedly killing his 24-year-old wife, Meno Kanjo, in Elemoro, Ajah area of the state.

According to police investigations, Daniel stabbed his wife to death after catching her making love to another man in a bush near their home.

According to a police source at Elemoro Divison, after stabbing his wife many times, the suspect also stabbed himself in the stomach and in the neck.

The suspect and the wife were thought to be dead, forcing the residents to call the police to evacuate the corpses

As policemen were packing the corpses to the mortuary, Daniel was, however, discovered to be breathing and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

The suspect, who had been discharged, told PUNCH Metro that the incident was the work of the devil.

He said he loved his wife dearly and never hit her prior to the incident, adding that when he caught her red-handed committing adultery, he lost control.

He said, “I am from Benin Republic but I have been living in Nigeria since 2001. I have two wives. My first wife has six children for me. However in 2010, I got married to Meno (the deceased) and we have a one-year-old child together.

“I am a bricklayer by vocation and I have never denied Meno of anything, even though she was a hairdresser and was making money. I was also faithful to her and showed her love.”

Narrating what transpired on the fateful day, the suspect said he came back from work in the afternoon and needed to collect something from the deceased.

He said as he was looking for her in the house, he was drawn by sounds emanating from a nearby bush.

He said, “When I heard the sound coming from the bush, I moved near and saw my wife having sex with a strange man. As I moved closer, the man saw me and ran away. But I was able to grab my wife and I gave her the beating of her life.

“I did not know what came over me, but I took a knife and stabbed her all over her body. Before I realised what happened, the devil also pushed me to stab myself. I stabbed myself in the stomach and also slit my throat.”

Daniel said some of his neighbours, who were drawn by the noise, started beating him up when they saw his wife on the ground.

He said, “After stabbing myself, I was still moving on the floor although I was weak. Some people came around and started beating me, saying that I must die too since I had killed my wife. They beat me up and took photographs. When I woke up, I found myself in the hospital.”

The suspect urged the police to release him as he was not himself when he was committing the crime. He said if he was sent to prison, his children would suffer.

He said, “My first born is 13 years old while my youngest child is a year old. I pay their school fees and I am responsible for their upkeep. If I am sent to prison, they will all suffer.”

The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Damasus Ozoani, said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.”

I Got Pregnant At 17 —Actress, Clarion Chukwura

Nollywood actress, Clarion Chukwura in a recent interview shares her acting and growing up experiences.

I lost my father when I was 11 years and one week old; it was only my mother that I can say reacted when I started acting. But she was never against my acting.

I actually began acting in the university community. My mother spoke with Bayo Oduleye (then a lecturer at the University of Ibadan.)

She also spoke with Yomi Shohunde. My mother, being an educated woman, did not have problem when I began acting, though she thought I would study law.

The fact that I became a star early did not let me have the problem my pals were having. I became a star at 15. When I got pregnant, there was a crack between me and my mother - which any mother would react to.

At that time, I was 17, and an undergraduate. She felt it was her fault, having lost her husband, she had the responsibility to look after us so that she would not lose any of us.

I started acting (stage and television) in 1979, when I was 15 years, and I joined the Nigerian film industry in 1982 with Ola Balogun's Money Power. But if you want to talk about home video, I joined the home video industry in 1994. I was the lead female character in the first attempt at home video production in Nigeria by Jimi Odumosu, Fiery Force (1986).

Why I Am Very Controversial – Actress, Empress Njamah

Nollywood actress, Empress Njamah in a recent interview when she was asked if she's not afraid that she may recede in the memory of her fans with her long break from Nollywood.

What has been happening, as you seem to be so quiet lately?

It is deliberate as I have been so busy for some time. I have been travelling a lot and working on so many other projects outside the movie circuit. Just recently, I opened my boutique in Abuja. I also have a spa and a saloon in the city. I will soon open my Lagos outlet, it is just that Lagos is too choked up for me, but that should not be an excuse.

I am definitely working on my Lagos branch. I have loads of customers in Lagos that I bring stuff for more than every other place. However, I love Abuja right now for its serenity. As per movie, during my spare time, I still run to some locations to shoot one or two movies. In fact, I am working on some scripts.

Are you not afraid that you may recede in the memory of your fans with this long break?

A good brand will always remain fresh even if went out of circulation for five years. You will always be remembered for your good works. I don't believe one needs to do a hundred movies to stay relevant and fresh in the industry. I know some people who have featured in many productions but yet do not have that star status. If you don't have the star streak, you don't have it.

You can do just a movie in a year and you will be high up there. Funke Akindele has been in the industry for some time but she came up with this fantastic movie 'Jenifa' that deals with a very important topic, though comical, and that was it. Moreso, with the level I have attained in the industry, I don't think I should be everywhere. That's the truth. But we all know that there wasn't real money to be made in this our industry, so, one has to really use his or her talent in a very positive way.

I have a flair for other things and I am pursuing them. Movie will always be there and I can always fall back to it. I do it when I can do it. I travel a lot. The name is still there so I need to do a lot of things because I would definitely fall back to the movies. You can't leave the industry just like that. It's not possible.

What is it about Empress that attracts controversy?

I don't know o. I can't explain the reasons for all these controversies, but I guess a lot of your people think that without me they can't sell their newspapers and magazines.

But you enjoy all the buzz?

Well, as much as I like people to make money and improve their lives, but seriously it doesn't have to be through controversy. What even are all these controversies? That people write things that they know aren't true, all because they want to sell their magazines? Most times they just write things to entertain their readers which they know are not true about me. Is that the kind of controversy you think I enjoy?

Why are you still single?

I am going to say this and don't care how people will take it; the days when marriages were sweet and all beautiful are no more. If you listen to how your parents got married and how those days were sweet, but unfortunately it is not like that anymore.

I have seen a lot of people going into marriages and have witnessed them coming out of it. Considering this, you will be careful. A lot of guys can't stand an industrious woman especially if she is doing very well. That is the mentality of some people. Looking at me, I am a car freak alright.

I have five cars and not acquiring them because I want to show off, but to some guys, can they stand that? I am a very blunt person and always trying to say it the way it is, not minding whatever.

Every woman's dream is to get married but it's not just to get married but to get married to your friend. I want to marry my friend.

Pressure Mounts On In Edo's Husband To Dump Her

If information reaching us is anything to go by, then there is fire on the mountain for popular actress, Ini Edo and nobody seems to be on the run, as Asa would say.

According to a fresh gist getting to us, Ini Edo is not a happy woman at the moment. The reason is that if urgent steps are not taken, her marriage might crumble and she would join the league of Nollywood actress with failed marriages.

Grapevines alleged that pressure is being mounted on her handsome husband, Philip Ehigwina, by his family members to dump the charming actress.

According to what tale-bearers told Nigeriafilms.com, Ini Edo's in-laws are not happy that the glamorous actress hasn't given them a child after about four years of marriage.

"These Edo people are just too funny, they have already told Philip to chase away Ini Edo since she can't give them a child," one of the gossips lashed out.

Another said, "but come to think of it, why would Ini Edo's in-laws interfere with her marriage?" This was quickly answered by the first busy-body, "that's Edo culture for you. Their sons don't have much say in their marriages."

We were told by the industry grapevines that Ini Edo has been telling some of her close allies that with the way things are going; Philip might eventually give in to his family's demands. Tale bearers further told us that after Ini Edo attended her hubby's late mother's burial in April 2013, things have really not been well with the once upon a time happy couple.

However, the actress has denied that her marriage is being troubled. She disclosed this when we called her to get her reaction on the story that the rumour is unfounded.

According to the Akwa-Ibom-born beauty, "no matter what you people (press) write, it is not going to change the fact that I am happily married. I think you guys should be tired of all these. From the first day I got married, you people have been plotting all sort of evils, I don't know why you are not giving up on it. It is never going to happen. That's what I have to say."

See The Gift That Beyonce And Jay-Z Gave Kim Kardashian For Her Baby Shower

Beyonce and Jay-Z couldn't attend Kim Kardashian's baby shower, but they sent a gift.

"Beyonce and Jay-Z's gift could not be outdone, a £9,000 [about $13,700] Swarovski crystal-studded high chair, designed by Carla Monchen," a source told Sunday's Mirror in the U.K. "They had a similar one for their daughter Blue Ivy."

The Carla Monchen-designed Icansit is a modern baby chair that is embellished with hundreds of Swarovski crystals on its footrest and table. It comes in either black or white, but looks like it would be a pain to clean once splattered with mushy baby food.

The U.K. paper also reports that Beyonce's bestie Gwenyth Paltrow was also invited to Kardashian's baby shower, but didn't attend. In lieu of her presence, the Oscar-winning actress sent out a more affordable gift: a £350 Vitamix blender and a 21-day cleanse to help Kardashian get back into shape after giving birth. (They share the same personal trainer.)

It is believed that Beyonce couldn't make it to the baby shower due to her touring schedule, while Paltrow doesn't really know Kim that well.

Kim Kardashian and her baby daddy Kanye West are expecting a girl this July.

I Wasted Six Years Of My Life With Jim Iyke"- Keturah Hamilton

Jim Iyke's sad and heartbroken Jamaican ex-fiancee Keturah Hamilton describes in details how the breakup affected her.

"These days, I ask God: Why has thou forsaken me? How can a man with whom we had gone through the highs and the lows - a man who had professed so much undying love for me over the past six years just walk away like that? I don't know what happened and I wish I could put a finger on it. He took away six years of memories, of support of love and all that I did for him - just like that. How mean and callous can one get?

Jim was supposed to come to New York and stay for six months, during which time, he would go to an acting school here in New York and then we would move to Los Angeles and get married and pursue our acting dreams. I was looking forward to that with eagerness and then he just walked away" she began to sob according to Diasporan Star

Asked what could have been the reason for such a change of heart, Keturah said "we had problems like normal lovers do, but we always resolved them amicably. I know there was something Jim asked me to do, which I didn't want to do right away, but that should not have made him to do what he did." Pressed to reveal what it was that Jim wanted him to do, she said it was personal.

Keturah said she feels used and dumped "I played along in the reality show as if I truly was a jealous and crazy lover. It was an act, but now I feel as if Jim set me up. He is a wicked man. I stood by him through all his troubles and tribulations. I helped bring him to the limelight when the light of his career was dimming. He is an ingrate and I leave him to God."

One area that seems to have pained Keturah more appears to be the rumor making the rounds that Jim left her for the Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari. "That is the rumor I have heard and I know it is not just a rumor. They have been hooking up in Ghana. They were together at Tuface's wedding and appear to be everywhere together. I just can't believe Jim would be this ungrateful -after all I have done for him. I have not been able to accept this and I am truly in a state of shock. If Jim could treat me the way he did, after six years of being there for him, supporting him, encouraging him in all that he did, then I wish Nadia the best of luck."

Jim according to sources is living in Nadia's house in Ghana and is constantly seen driving her car on the streets of Accrathe Ghanaian capital. He is said to have told friends he and Nadia are mere friends, but most people find that difficult to believe.

Meanwhile, Keturah appears to have moved on with her life. "I am a strong woman and I am moving ahead with my life. God cannot give you that which He will not provide you the platform to stand and deal with. I wish the best in his life."

I'm Getting Married Soon — Benita Okojie

In the 90s, Benita Okojie, at the tender age of 12, was a sensation as a gospel music child artiste. Now 24, the multiple award-winner relives the experience of stardom and adulthood.

Child stars face a lot of pressures while growing up, did you experience such?

I did but the winning factor for me was the close relationship I had with God and my family. I did not shut my loved ones out of my life. They are the ones who can tell me the truth about anything, no matter how big it is. I have a good relationship with my parents and I talk to them about everything. My mother, especially, was a pillar of strength for me and I was able to tell her a lot of things and she helped me through all the changes. I am a very spiritual being and I pray a lot.

How did you handle the superstar treatment in school?

The early stages of the job were very harsh on me. I had friends who just had issues with my person, not necessarily because I did anything wrong but because they felt that I was going around with a larger than life image. I do not think that was the situation but because I am out there, everybody wants to judge me based on what they don't even know. I thank God for my parents and my siblings who helped and supported me all the way. I made very good friends also. Now, I am a graduate. I have friends who I hook up with once in a while and we hang out and attend functions together.

What has changed about your career now as an adult?

The difference is not so significant because I will always do indigenous songs. It is a language which I am able to express myself in. But I am going to do a lot of English songs as well because I know my fan base extends to people who do not understand Edo songs. There are some foreigners too. Recently, I checked our facebook page and saw a lot of foreigners posting comments there.

What lessons have you learnt as an adult?

I have learnt about growth. As a young lady, boys will seek one's attention but one should learn to have a great relationship with guys while setting boundaries with them at the same time. Your parents should always be people you respect, no matter how big you are and how much money you make. You would always need parental love and support. Mine have been there for me all the time. Sometimes, when the youthful exuberance in me crops up, my parents would always make sure that I stay grounded. They always remind me of where I am coming from, where I am going and what I have done. That has kept me balanced. Guys would come and go but your parents would always be there.

What has been happening to your music career?

I am working on a couple of singles and a talk show but while I am still waiting for all of that, I am having as much fun as I can have.

What about marketing your songs?

I don't think I can handle that but I have put friends and family members in place to assist me, they are also learning in the process. My sister is my personal assistant and my mother works with the board of my management and that helps a lot. It is easier to communicate with family. Whenever outsiders are brought in, they are made to understand that I am more of a family girl and we always like to do things together. This helps us to be focused. I don't allow business to becloud what I do. Most importantly, I am a gospel artiste and my job is to win souls for Christ. If money comes, it will help facilitate what I do well but it should not be the basis for doing what I do.

Are you limiting yourself to gospel?

I do inspirational songs. Whenever I go for concerts and they tell me they have a mixed crowd and would like me to mix songs that are not purely gospel, I would get songs like Whitney Houston's Greatest Love of All, Mariah Carey's Hero. These are songs that inspire and motivate. The most important thing is that you pass a positive message across to people.

What does style mean to you?

It is what I am comfortable in. Anything is suitable for me but I just like to look my age, I don't like to dress older than my age.

How old are you now?

I am in my 20s. I am sure you know that women have an issue with revealing their age. I am enjoying my 20s.

What are your favourite accessories?

I love rings a lot. They are very fashionable to wear. I like wearing them until the real ring comes.

When?

Very soon. You should get an invitation when the time comes.

Is the man also a musician?

No.

What does he do?

What is your favourite food?

It is amala, I like eating it with ewedu and turkey soup. It is my favourite and I have also learnt to prepare it.

What is a typical day like for you?

I wake up, pray and blog, but I have not blogged for a long time now because I have been investing money in a song we are working on. Sometimes, I rehearse. I am learning to play the guitar and I check how far I have gone in perfecting my guitar playing skills. Then, I go on social network to see what impact my project is making in the lives of people. I also try to answer as many messages as possible. I do house chores. My parents don't let me go out without doing my portion of the house chores. I clean my room and wash the plates. I have to do all the things that I should do in the house because I will become a wife some day.

How do you handle pressure?

There is no particular way of handling pressure but when I am pressurised, I pray.

What is your advice to young girls, who see you as a role model?

Pray and continually follow your dreams. Be sure it is what God wants for you, then pursue it wholeheartedly. Let God be the winning factor in your life. Also, make sure you have a great family who supports what you do. Remain steadfast; start and follow through with the project or you will fail.

Have you ever had sad moments in life?

When there are challenging moments, I always look at the positive side.
